Foxbridge Hosts Classic Car Show

Residents, families, staff members, friends and other car enthusiasts gathered this summer at Foxbridge, the Memphis assisted living and memory care community, for its first annual Classic Car Show.

Foxbridge hosted the event, which featured 21 cars displayed on the 8-acre campus. “Although we had a few newer models,” shares J.J. Doughtie, Foxbridge’s Executive Director, “the majority of the cars were classics, with many 1950s Chevys, several Model T’s, Mustangs, and Thunderbirds.”

One of the unique aspects of the show was the participation of the residents of the assisted living community. Not only did seeing the cars bring back memories for residents as spectators, they also served as judges, awarding 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place trophies to the winners.

Johnny Ward, who has been a resident at Foxbridge since 2007, also proudly entered his 1956 Chevy Bel Air – and netted 3rd place! Mr. Ward has had his Chevy Bel Air about 20 years and has shown it countless times in car shows.  His hobby after retirement was repairing, restoring and showing cars in shows.

The community celebration was part of Foxbridge’s implementation of Planetree Continuing Care, a philosophy of care that focuses on the relationships that nurture all members of a senior living community. Foxbridge is owned by United Methodist Homes, a Connecticut faith-based nonprofit that pioneered the development of Planetree Continuing Care nationally for assisted living and skilled healthcare centers.

Mrs. Doughtie relates: “Through Planetree, we try to give all who live at our community the opportunity to continue to fulfill dreams and to fuel their passions. For Mr. Ward, it is classic cars. For other residents, it might be music, art, or any other type of self-expression. The Planetree components stress what it takes to help people have a meaningful and fulfilling life, including activities, food, relationships, and an environment that nourishes the soul.”

Foxbridge offers a variety of assisted living and memory care options tailored to individual needs. For more information, call 901-377-0101 or visit www.foxbridge.org.
